Mozilla Launches Firefox 4 Beta

In retaliation to Opera who launched their new and improved web browser last week, one of the most popular web browsers in the world, Firefox, reached version number 4 yesterday when Mozilla made the beta version of the browser available to users.

Although Firefox holds a healthy portion of the browser market, it faces a growing challenge from Google Chrome as well as pressure from Internet Explorer.

As well as focusing on enhanced performance and accelerated hardware support in Firefox 4, PC Pro reported that the newest version of Mozilla's popular web browser includes crash protection for third party add-ons and an updated add-on manager.

The most noticeable change when using Firefox 4 is the positioning of the website tabs; they have now been moved to the top of the screen in a similar style as seen in Google Chrome. Mozilla's lead developer stated that this was done to improve usability and to make tab switching easier.

"We moved the tabs to the top to make it easier to focus on the web content and easier to control the tools in your web browser," Mike Beltzner (Mozilla's lead developer) stated .

"Also, if you have Windows 7 or Windows Vista the Menu bar was replaced with a single Firefox button so you can get to the most used options with just one click."

The company plans to release updated beta versions every few weeks based on feedback received from beta testers, before releasing the finished browser later in 2010.
